Experience sharing visit of the PRDA staff |

|
In November 2007, 15 staff members of PRDA selected from among
its Mirissa field office (10), Gampaha field office (2) and the
head office (3) participated in an experience-sharing visit to
Tamil Nadu and Kerala states in India. This visit was jointly
supported by Actionaid Sri Lanka and PRDA. Actionaid Sri Lanka
is a partner of PRDA since 2005. The visit was coordinated by
the Actionaid office in Chennai. This programme facilitated
visits to the following organizations, meetings and discussions
and interviews with relevant groups. |

PRAXIS, Nagarcoil –Women self-help groups,
carrying out
credit programmes and livelihoods and housing
programmes. |

TRUE, in Tirunelveli district –Self-help groups of men
and women and their federations and the care-giver
groups in their psychosocial programmes. |

Visited another Actionaid partner in Tuticorin (Thoothukudi)
district, working with excluded community groups. |
|
4. |
Visited a partner organisation of Actionaid –
This organization provides support
for cashew processors to secure their fundamental
rights, to organize themselves as community groups, to
initiate savings and credit programmes and conducts
education programmes for children of cashew processors
and awareness creation programmes for parents and
teachers. |

5. |
Mithranikethan, Kerala - An organization established in
1956 in Kerala as an innovative education programme for
empowering rural youth. ‘Education for Life’ is the key
emphasis of Mithranikethan and aims at personality
development of youth and children through teamwork,
leadership
training,
vocational training etc. Mitranikethan is a residential
community, engaged in a variety of educational
activities. This campus is located on a 60 acre land and
includes a nursery school, primary school, high school,
people's college, rural technology centre, farm science
centre, dairy unit, education research centre, indoor
stadium, open stadium, library, open air auditorium, tea
house, guest house, health centre, computer lab, silk
weaving unit, fruit processing unit, tissue culture lab,
biotechnology lab, water testing lab, hostels, staff
quarters, vocational training workshops, marketing
outlet and a bakery. |
