  Celebrating the Second Anniversary of WED Programme

  Kantha Ithurum Parshramayas (Women’s Savings Organisations) in Gampaha, Puttalam and Chilaw continued to benefit from the credit facilities provided by the Enterprise Promotion Trust (EPT) for 7 years since its inception in 2005. In 2011, the EPT was replaced by the Women’s Enterprise Development (WED) programme. The objective of the WED programme is to encourage and support the members of the Kantha Ithurum Parishramays to invest in income generating activities that would eventually enhance their household incomes and family well-being. The WED programme facilitates micro-credit and entrepreneurship development training for members of the Kantha Ithurum Parishramayas.

  The second anniversary celebrations of the WED programme was held on 14th August 2013 at the PRDA Centre in Chilaw. At this event, several women who have invested loans that they borrowed from the WED programme in a variety of small enterprises shared their success stories.  The Ithurum Parishramays that effectively participated in the WED programme as well as their credit managers who made a significant contribution to the success of the Programme were rewarded with tokens of appreciation.

  The three best women entrepreneurs selected through an open competition were awarded certificates and prizes. They were;

  Chilaw Zone: Mrs. Mari Samudra of Wairankattuwa Kantha Ithurum Parishramaya
